June 2010 - The Great Easy Rider
Dennis Hopper, director of Easy Rider has sadly lost his fight against cancer. One of Hollywood's great Hellraisers he claimed to consume half a gallon of rum, 28 beers and three grammes of cocaine a day. He famously said, after being asked if he expected to see 70?, "Hell, I didn't expect to see 30."
Hopper played the dope smoking, hippie biker called Billy and along side his co-stars, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson the 1969 'road movie' quickly became a modern classic.
Hopper went on to play the drug crazed photographer in Francis Ford Coppola's film Apocalypse Now. A role that was loosely based on the war photographer Tim Page. He was nominated for an Oscar for Hoosiers in 1986 and a Golden Globe for Blue Velvet in the same year.
