This 1978 R100RS is a rare European delivery model, and has the very desirable 40mm carbs and exhaust system. It's a numbers matching bike. It is in great condition; it starts easily, doesn't smoke, handles great, stops great, and everything works including the turn signal beeper. It has the factory (not a repro) solo seat, as well as the matching dual saddle. It wears the 1-year only color of Gold Metallic which Hans Muth came up with when tasked by BMW to come up with a 'different and eye-grabbing' color for the '78 model year. (He autographed the fairing for me in Metallic Gold while at the 40th Anniversary RS Rally last year). From what I can tell, the paint is factory original. I went through the bike before the rally and refreshed it with new tires, battery, plugs, wires, brake system, wheel bearings, cables, carbs rebuilt, fork seals and tune up. It was prepped for the RS rally and it got me there and back without a hiccup. The instruments all work. The odometer reads 11,800 kilometers, but I cannot attest to the bike's actual miles since I am not the original owner. What I can say is that it runs like an 11,800 km bike should; very powerful, strong, and tight! And it shifts extremely smoothly. The bike is not a museum bike though, it has chips, scratches, a few dents, etc. as the photos indicate. It does not leak any fluids at all. It's an extremely original bike, it still has the pre-recall front wheel, the factory stickers on the side cover and tank for the emergency medical kit....the original medical kit is still inside the compartment of the dual saddle! The Krauser saddle bags are like new, and include the internal liners and keys. The title is clear and it is titled as a '1979' model......I believe this is because when these bikes were new, the color was less than popular among the BMW community. So the bike likely sat in the dealer's showroom for a while before being sold in 1979 and it was then titled as a 1979 model. This was a pretty common occurrence back then.
