September 2009 - Netley Marsh September 2009 in brief

The sun shone from Thursday through to Sunday afternoon, the site was busy and there seemed to be a general buoyancy among both traders and buyers on the field.
Once again the event was both well organised and attended and that all to familiar feel of financial doom and gloom seemed to be absent for the four days!
Some interesting machines appeared on the field, some for sale and others just having an outing for the weekend. Most notably, an overhead cam ‘lighthouse model’ OK Supreme was spotted being loaded into the back of a van (any more information on this machine would be of interest if you can help) and a rare 1930 Harley Davidson model 'D' tri-cylinder sat happily next to its owners van for the weekend. There seemed to be more 1980s big engined Japanese spares for sale this year, but this comes as no surprise as that market is enjoying a resurgence at the moment.

At the other end of the Marchwood by-pass, Beaulieu did not disappoint either. Record numbers this year flocked through the gates on the weekend resulting in 5-mile tailbacks through some of the forest roads. Some lovely machines on display from the European traders and some great restoration projects being offered. An early two stroke Cleveland was seen briefly for sale on the field (some indications seem to suggest that this was a Netley machine brought over to Beaulieu for re-sale) Prices seemed strong but this accurately follows the recent trend as the classic and vintage motorcycle markets hold strong and gather momentum looking towards the end of the year.

And what of the Bonhams sale? Well, for those of you who didn’t attend, you can visit the Bonhams website for the results. www.bonhams.com Approximately 97% of all lots were sold across the board, huge prices and no doubt some very happy vendors! 100% of motorcycles were sold reaffirming the Auction houses position as the leaders in the auction market place. The Automobilia didn’t disappoint either with some fantastic lots including a scattering of motorcycle related memorabilia.
All in all – a great weekend and some very positive market related results and interest. On to Stafford next, in October!
